God's plan for me became my guiding light, helping me build a legacy rooted in serving others and creating a lasting impact.
At just 10 years old, my life took a significant turn. My parents divorced, leading my mom, siblings and I to move to Puerto Rico. I’m Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Black, so moving to Puerto Rico felt like a chance to connect more deeply with part of my heritage. My experiences would drastically impact the course of my life.
Before the move, I had been an academically advanced student in California, working on algebra in third grade. However, my new school in Puerto Rico lacked the resources to challenge me adequately. This setback in my education had a lasting impact, creating a knowledge gap that I struggled with when we returned to California. Despite this, my natural intelligence helped me navigate high school, but I always felt like I was making up for lost time.
As I entered adulthood, I found my calling in the mortgage industry. Starting at Wells Fargo after having my daughter, Savanna, I quickly rose to become a top banker and loan consultant. I built a strong network and worked well with my community, honing my problem-solving skills that would become crucial in my future career. When the market crashed, I had to leave the industry temporarily, and I was devastated but real estate always called me back.
The dream of starting my own mortgage company first came to me in 2005, but it took 15 years of ups and downs, failures and successes, to make it a reality. In 2020, during the pandemic, I felt a clear message from God: it was time to pursue my dream. Despite facing challenges in earning my broker’s license, I persisted through every setback. By 2021, I had not only started my mortgage company, Morena Mortgage, but also my real estate company, Burris Realty, to be there for my clients through every step of their journey.
My faith is the cornerstone of everything I do, and business is no different. It is what brought me here and enabled me to push past every barrier. As a minister, I find joy in helping people by sharing the word of God, while in real estate, I use my knowledge to empower others to achieve their dreams. I believe in treating people with honor and integrity and always doing what’s right, even if it means losing a paycheck. This philosophy drives my businesses and how I live my life.
God's calling to this path has been a beautiful redemption of everything I thought I’d lost in my childhood. I’ve been able to reclaim the potential I thought I had lost and turn it into something meaningful. I work harder than ever before, but it’s fulfilling because it’s my company, my name, and my legacy. I’m constantly working to push past my comfort zone, focused on being the best version of myself that God has called me to be.

My daughter, Savanna, has always been my motivation. I bought a home for us, started a business to support her education, and now she’s studying criminal justice with dreams of working in government. Seeing her pursue her dreams makes all the hard work worth it!
